Have a question about our firewood, garden products, delivery or collection? Here are the answers to some of the questions we’re asked most often. If you need any more information, please get in touch with the Browns Firewood team.
What size are your logs?
Our seasoned logs vary naturally in shape and size, but are generally around 20–35 cm long. Kiln-dried logs tend to be more uniform in size. If you have a smaller log burner, we recommend trying a net sack first to make sure the logs are suitable.
What’s the difference between seasoned and kiln-dried firewood?
Seasoned firewood is dried naturally over time, while kiln-dried firewood is dried in a controlled kiln. Both can provide excellent fuel when properly dried. Our kiln-dried range offers consistently low moisture levels, while our seasoned range provides a choice of hardwood and softwood logs.
Why does moisture content matter?
Dry firewood is easier to light, burns more efficiently and produces less smoke than wet or freshly cut logs. Firewood with a moisture content of 20% or less is recommended for cleaner, more efficient burning. Always store your logs somewhere dry and well ventilated.
What sizes of firewood bags do you offer?
Depending on the product, our firewood is available in convenient net sacks, barrow bags and bulk bags. Net sacks are useful for smaller purchases, barrow bags are easier to move and store, and bulk bags are ideal if you use more firewood. Please check the individual product page for the sizes and options currently available.
Do you offer free local delivery?
Yes. We offer free local delivery on qualifying orders within 25 miles of our base at MK17 9FX. The minimum order value depends on your distance from us:
- Within approximately 20 miles: minimum order of £50 for free delivery.
- Approximately 20–25 miles: minimum order of £80 for free delivery.
Enter your delivery address at checkout to see whether your order qualifies. Online local delivery is not currently available outside our 25-mile delivery area.
Is there a minimum order for delivery?
Yes. The minimum basket value is £50 or £80, depending on your delivery address. You can combine eligible products to reach the minimum. For example, you do not have to buy ten net sacks if other items in your basket bring the order up to the required value.
Can I collect my order instead?
Yes. You can select free local collection at checkout, with no minimum order value. We are based at Unit 10, Mill Lane, Lower Rectory Farm, Milton Keynes, MK17 9FX. Orders are generally ready for collection in around 24 hours; please wait until we confirm your order is ready before travelling.
Can you deliver to my allotment?
We can often deliver to allotments, provided there is suitable vehicle access and a safe place to unload. Barrow bags can sometimes be moved closer to your plot, while bulk bags require suitable unloading access. Please contact us before ordering if access is restricted or you need delivery to a particular spot.
Do you offer a log stacking service?
Yes. Stacking is available as an option on selected firewood products. Choose the stacking option on the product page before adding your logs to the basket. We can stack logs in a suitable accessible log store, garage or shed, but not inside your home. Please contact us if you are unsure whether your storage area is suitable.
Do you offer discounts for larger orders?
Yes. Selected firewood products have automatic multi-bag discounts. For example, qualifying barrow bags receive £5 off each bag when you buy three or more, and qualifying bulk bags receive £10 off each bag when you buy three or more. Selected garden products also have quantity discounts. The applicable discount is shown automatically at checkout; check the individual product page for details.
Can you deliver garden mulch and woodchip?
Yes. We supply garden mulch and woodchip in bulk bags, with larger delivery options available on selected products. Tipper van deliveries need suitable vehicle access and a safe unloading area, so please check the product details and contact us if access could be difficult.
How should I store my firewood?
Keep logs off the ground in a dry, well-ventilated place, ideally in a purpose-built log store or under a cover that allows air to circulate. Avoid wrapping firewood tightly in plastic, as trapped moisture can affect its condition.
Do you offer nationwide delivery?
Our Shopify checkout currently supports local delivery within our defined delivery area. If you are further away and would like to discuss a larger order, please contact us to ask whether a separate delivery arrangement may be possible.
